The STEAM subjects -- science, technology, engineering, arts, and math -- are defining our lives and our future. But American schools are failing to present and integrate these key topics, and as a result, American students and workers are falling behind. The challenge is clearest in communities of color. It doesn’t have to be this way. We can spark interest and awareness quickly, reflect the richness and opportunity of STEAM topics and careers, and in a way that gives students agency and ownership over learning methods and materials.

As competition for jobs and access globalizes more and more, American students of color have to fight through mounting challenges just to get in the game. By reaching youth at the nexus of their cultural vitality, self-expression, and hunger for change, we can create a new wave of education through entertainment.
